Saint Mokujiki was born in Marubatake in 1718. He converted to Buddhism when he was 22 years old, and received his ordination with the name Mokujiki at the temple Rakanji in Tokiwa at the age of 45.
Mokuji underwent a type of severe ascetic training that does not allow the consumption of grains, fish, boiled food and salt. He kept to the rules of this training for his entire life.

He went on a pilgrimage throughout Japan until he was 93, and carved more than 1000 Buddist images during this time.

In his old age, when he had passed 80 years, he realized that people need something king and gentle to become kind themselves.

"Peoples hearts need to be all round,
everything needs to be all round and smooth!"

He then started carving Buddha statues with the special smile on their faces, for which he is now so famous. The smile and roundness makes his statues so different from the ones of his fellow Enku.

Mejiro the White Eye, Konjo-in temple

Mejiro Fudo is the greatest of the Five-Color-Edo Fudos. Successive Tycoons of the Edo shogunate worshiped devoutly. Many samurai and people believed in Mejiro Fudo.
The statue of the Mejiro Fudo is an important and special Buddist image. Its left arm is cut under its left elbow. Fire spurts out from the elbow.

The statue of Mejiro Fudo was moved from Sekiguchi Bunkyo-ku to Konjo-in temple because of fire by World War II on May, 1945.

The temple is known for having been built by its worshippers. The principal image was directly and elaborately carved out of an 800-year-old camphor tree. The precincts are also known for beautiful ume (Japanese apricot) blossoms.

The Red Inkstone Akama

Origin of the name
There is a story of the god, Mejiro Fudo Myo-o, who is enshrined at the old Seian-ji Temple in Sanyo-cho, Asa-gun, Yamaguchi prefecture. In this story Myo-o visited a man named Nizaemon, who lived in Ohko Sanyo-chohara, in his dream.
Myo-oh appeared and told him that there was suzuri somewhere.

He made a suzuri out of that suzuri and gave it to the domain lord Mori and given a authority to sell it to other countries. Because this rock (shale) contains iron oxide and it makes the stone color redder than normal ones.
This is why it is called "Akamaishi-red stone" and therfore, inc slab is called "Akama Suzuri- red ink-slab." One of other versions of story says it is called "Akama Suzuri", because they were mainly sold at Akamagaseki in Shimonoseki.

This is a Picture Of A Contemporary White Fudo Myo'o

During my Karate days we use to sit in a Karate stance called the Fudo dachi (immovable stance) call the Fudo Dachi. The White image of Fudo Myo' O is adopted by many martial arts and Karate schools.
During my study of karate we learned of the Buddhist God Fudo myo'o. However never in my years as a Nichiren Shoshu Buddhist did I realize that this deity was written on the Gohonzon.

Please understand that White Martial arts schools transform this deity to their culture however the minute an African or African/American claim or associate with this deity we are called racist. People often say what difference does it make? By my personally looking at the traditional Black Fudo Myo'o and the White one I get a different spirit.

This White Fudo myo'o reminds me of the wrestler and now Governor of Minnesota Jesse "The Body" Ventura. There is nothing wrong with a White Fudo Myo'o but the minute you say that he is white, then we are called racist. http://www.proudblackbuddhist.org/There_are_Two_Black_Buddhas_on/Untitled_6.html

Fudo Myo-O Statue

Quoted from Maha Kala.com

FUDO-MYOO or O FUDOSAN

Sanskrit Seed: KAN
Sanskrit Seed: UN
Name: Acala-vidyaraja
+ God of Fire +
Acalanatha means "Immovable"

"Some also say Fudo is the Hindu God Shiva. Flames in background said to represent the purification of the mind; in Kamakura, Fudo is enshrined at Joju-in and Myoo-in. Others say flame behind Fudo originated from the vomit of the mythical Karura."

"Personification of Dainichi Nyorai; best known of the five, and one of the main deities of the Shingon sect. Converts anger into salvation; furious, glaring face, as Fudo seeks to frighten people into accepting the teachings of Dainichi; carries "kurikara" or devil-subduing sword in right hand (also represents wisdom cutting through ignorance); holds rope in left hand (to catch and bind up demons); often has third eye in forehead (all-seeing); often seated or standing on rock (because Fudo is "immovable" in his faith).

In sculpture, Fudo is often flanked by two attendants, Kongara Douji and Seitaka Douji. "

This is quoted from a long illustrated list of Buddhist deities and other information on Buddhism.

Singing Bowls of the Himalaya Region

The history of the Singing Bowls is quite mysterious. Some say that they were in use during the time of Shakyamuni Buddha, over 2500 years ago, in the indigenous communities of the Himalaya, while others speculate even earlier origins. The theory and practice revolving around the Bowls involves refination, geomantik perception, chakra healing, invocation, prayer, mantra, and astral projection.

They speak of the unified field of quantum physics, the tantric doctrine of vibration and the harmony of the spheres. The higher quality Bowls seem to have a particularly healing effect on the chakras, massaging in a sense the subtle energy channels of the light body in a way that relaxes both both body and mind, restoring a peaceful balance to the individual in relation to the environment, and heightening awareness. There is a magik about them that is impossible to describe outside of the singularity of the moment in which they are played.

There is a Fudoo Rock above the waterfall.
This place is venerated if you seek relief or an eye ailment and other ailments. The waterfall is small, only about two meters down, but the sourroundings are awe-inspiring.
Legend knows that this waterfall was designated by En-no-Gyooja himself.

Shibuya, Tokyo

The founder is 宥悦法印 Priest Yuetsu.
The present building dates back to 1561, the main statue is 薬師如来 Yakushi Nyorai.
It used to belong to the shrine Hikawa Jinja in Asakusa.

There was a special hall for 不動堂 Fudo Myo-O, but the building was lost in the Air Raids of 1945. The statue of Fudo and Kobo Daishi could be saved however.
In the early Heian period
Fujiwara Hidesato came here to pray for victory against Taira no Masakado and to partake of the power of this statue. The statue had then been handed around in various temples in the Kanto area. But in 1714 the priest from 三光院 Sanko-In in Tama had the vision to bring it back to Shogon-Ji where it is kept to our day.
