Hiwarashi 火童子 the "Fire Child"
Toki in Mino 美濃の国の土岐 / now in Gifu
Toki town is famous for its pottery to our day.

- quote
Inheriting 400 years of Mino Ware tradition represented by Oribe, Shino, and Kiseto wares, Fudogama has been manufacturing modern, warm, and unique pottery, mainly tableware.

We modestly attempt to express the identity of our products through their universal beauty, by eliminating excessive decoration. Both grace and boldness coexist in Fudogama products.

O-Shino
and the "Fire Child" Hiwarashi

Once upon a time, there lived a good couple doing pottery in Toki.

Ena Valley Gifu

Ena Valley in Gifu

There are a few places related to Fudo in this region.

- quote
Ena Valley - 恵那峡 Ena-kyo
The uniquely shaped rocks create a stunning sight, especially when taking in the sights from a boat while brilliant maple leaves light up the entire valley!

Ena Valley is a beautiful scenic area whose man-made lake was originally formed because of the construction of a dam downriver. It is a river valley where, in the spring, cherry blossoms bloom in full force and, in the fall, the cliffs blaze red and yellow with autumn leaves. Enjoying this scenery with the added feature of strangely shaped rocks dotting the area is particularly fulfilling from a cruise boat, which takes you around the lake for 30 minutes of incredible sightseeing.

One of the best places around Ena Valley is the hot spring bath from where you can enjoy a fabulous view of the valley. Soaking in the bath in the early evening is highly recommended, as one can watch the setting sun in all of its glory. The Ena area is also famous for chestnuts and, therefore, for the Japanese sweet called kurikinton, a delicacy made from chestnuts that you simply must try!

4 Chome-1-12 Nishikida, Fukui, 福井市
Somewhere in the mountain range of Asuwa Yama

- quote
Asahisan Fudoji Temple in Fukui city.

Built in 1711, the statues of this temple have been protecting local people here from natural disasters and evils in their lives. Asahisan can roughly be translated as 'a mountain of morning sun'.
Before the temple was built, people were suffering from natural disasters. Since there was a saying here that if Fudomyoo (Acala) is placed in the morning sun he would save humans from harm's way, people built this temple at the foot of Mt. Asuwa, aka, the place under the morning sun (Asahisan) in the hope that the Fudomyoo would protect them. When you look at the formidable-looking statues of Fudomyoo here, you may probably be convinced that they could truly protect us!
