Temple Nr. 22 . Kooryuuji 興隆寺 Koryu-Ji

第22番 西山 興隆寺　　 真言宗醍醐派
愛媛県周桑郡丹原町古田 1657
Ehime Saijō-shi, Tanbarachō Kota

This temple is famous for its red leaves momiji in autumn. It is about 275 meters high in the mountain. There are many flights of steps to reach it.

. Tengu 天狗と伝説 - 愛媛県 Legends about Tengu in Ehime .

丹原町 Tanbara

At the temple Koryu-Ji a Tengu comes to visit every month on the 18th and 28th day.
If malicious and wicked people go to the mountain on this day, the Tengu will throw them down into the valley.
Quite a few villagers have made this experience.
Once a young student came to the temple Koryu-Ji and waited for the Tengu to come out.
Then he heard a noise of the temple hall moving and shaking.
"Do not move, stay all quiet!" he heard a voice.
After a while, the hall was quiet again and he heard the voice again:
"The Tengu has now gone home!"
